James Kealey, Organist

James Kealey is the First Prize and Audience Prize winner of the 2022 American Guild of Organists National Young Artist Competition in Organ Performance (NYACOP). Currently he serves as Director of Music & Fine Arts at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, while also playing in recitals, concertos, and offering master classes. James holds a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music and was named one of The Diapason magazine’s “20 under 30” in 2021.

The Office of Compline (September)

The Office lasts about 40 minutes and consists of psalms, short passages from scripture, an office hymn, a canticle (Nunc Dimittis), a responsory, collect and additional prayers. In keeping with the earliest practices of the monastic communities, Compline is offered when the work of the day is completed—a time when the quietness of evening settles over the hearts and minds of those who have come together. It is an opportunity for reflection, to offer gratitude for the blessings of the day which has passed, and to anticipate God’s gift of a new day to come. UCelli: The Columbus Cello Quartet

Described by WOSU Classical 101 as, “breathing new life into music,” UCelli is a quartet of virtuoso cellists whose individual artistry and combined chemistry result in a unique and vibrant concert experience. Each artist is a soloist and chamber musician in her own right, bringing strong musical philosophies and relationships to cello repertoire and pedagogy. Also members of the Columbus Symphony and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, the experiences and collaborations held between these four cellists allow for exciting explorations of new and unconventional intersections between music and life. UCelli is Pei-An Chao, Mary Davis, Cora Kuyvenhoven, and Wendy Morton.

Music for All Saints and All Souls: Duruflé Requiem

Dr. Fitzgerald and the Cathedral Choir are joined by Dr. Nicole Simental, organist, to make their annual presentation of Duruflé’s Requiem. Contemplating the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls, celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, respectively, this concert will feature other choral works calling to mind the souls of those who have gone to their rest in Christ.

The Fourth Annual Gold Mass

At this Mass we ask the Holy Spirit to bless all those who work in music ministry, both professionally and as volunteers, a truly important labor for the glory of God and the sanctification of souls. Performers and church musicians are frequently called upon to bring musical inspiration to the liturgy, audiences, as well as classrooms. This is a day to unite our voices and to support each other in these unique endeavors. Most importantly, we come to acknowledge and praise the Source of all inspiration, the Author of art.

Lessons and Carols

The Cathedral Choir and Cathedral Brass mark the season with their annual presentation of Lessons and Carols. The afternoon will include seasonal choral works as well as familiar carols sung by all.

Jim Garvey, Organist

Sunday, January 24, 2027 at 3:00 p.m.

James Garvey has been Organist and Director of Music at Church of the Ascension, Knoxville, Tennessee, since 1990, where he continues to lead a vibrant music program including a regionally acclaimed concert series. He holds degrees from Rice University, where he studied organ with Clyde Holloway and piano with Mary Norris. Upon graduation, he served for five years as the Assistant Organist at St. John’s Cathedral in Denver, Colorado. An artist who has played throughout the Southeast, Mr. Garvey has also performed for regional and national conventions of the American Guild of Organists as well as national conferences of the Association of Anglican Musicians.

John Paul Farahat, Organist

Sunday, February 21, 2027 at 3:00 p.m.

Canadian organist John Paul Farahat leads a dual career as performer and pedagogue. He is Director of Music and Principal Organist of Saint Basil’s Church, at the University of Toronto, and is faculty Organ Instructor at Saint Michael’s Choir School. He serves as Chair of Advocacy on the Board of Directors for the Royal Canadian College of Organists.
