Renaissance Music in Lent

Thomas Tallis’s 40-voice motet, Spem in alium, stands as a towering achievement in Renaissance choral polyphony. The Cathedral Choir will be joined by several additional choirs to perform this work as well as other selections of music for Lent and Holy Week.

Admission is a suggested donation of $10 at the door.

Lessons and Carols

Advent WreathSunday, December 15, 2013; 3 p.m.

The Cathedral Choir and soloists will by joined by the Cathedral Chamber Orchestra for a program of works for Advent and Christmas, including Felix Mendelssohn’s rarely performed Vom Himmel hoch. The audience will also have the opportunity to sing the great carols of the season with orchestra and organs.

Admission is a suggested $10 donation at the door.

Messe pour Notre Dame

David BriggsSunday, March 23, 2014; 3 p.m.

British concert organist and composer David Briggs will accompany the Cathedral Choir in the Midwest premier of his Messe pour Notre Dame and other works. David’s brilliant improvisations will be interspersed with the choral movements.

Admission is a suggested $10 donation at the door.

Donor Concert and Reception

Those who have generously supported the work of Cathedral Music will be invited to a private concert and reception in their honor. This annual concert takes place in the Cathedral Apse and is the Cathedral musicians’ way of showing appreciation to those who make the Cathedral Concerts possible.

Handel’s Messiah

Saint Joseph Cathedral

The Saint Joseph Cathedral Choir and chamber orchestra will perform Handel’s Messiah in the newly-dedicated Church of Saint Paul in Westerville. This offering of the Handel masterwork is the choir’s first since 2007, and will feature soprano soloists Christina Madriguera, Chelsea Mondesir, and Sarah Wilson, mezzo soprano Lindsey Miller, countertenor Darita Seth, tenor Tim Gartner, and baritone Dustin Grovemiller.

Proceeds from this ticketed event will benefit the Saint Paul Church organ fund and the Cathedral Music Endowment.

Tickets are $20.00 and may be purchased in advance at either church or through a member of the Cathedral Choir.

Complete Choral Works of Duruflé

Cathedral ChoirSunday, November 11, 2012; 7:30 p.m.

The Cathedral Choir, accompanied by organist Robert Wisniewski, will sing all of Duruflé’s works for chorus. These include the Messe cum jubilo, Quatre Motets, Notre Pere, and the Requiem.
