Cathedral Choir

Those who have generously supported the work of Cathedral Music will be invited to a private concert in their honor. This annual concert is the Cathedral musicians’ way of showing appreciation to those who make the Cathedral Concerts possible.

Please note, we will unfortunately not be able to host a reception following this year’s concert as we continue to follow COVID-19 precautions. We will also be spacing out seating with more distance than is typical for this event. Thanks for your understanding!

Requiem: Maurice Duruflé and Herbert Howells

In honor of the Feast of All Souls, the Cathedral Choir will present two settings of the Requiem Mass, by Maurice Duruflé and Herbert Howells. Dr. Richard K. Fitzgerald, conductor; Miss Nicole Simental, organist.

Lessons and Carols

Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.

The Cathedral Choir and Cathedral Brass mark the season with their annual presentation of Lessons and Carols. Our afternoon program will include works by Mendelssohn, Britten, and Howells, among others, as well as familiar carols sung by all, accompanied by the renowned Fritts Grand Gallery Organ. We hope you will join us at the cathedral for this favorite fixture of the Advent season in central Ohio!

This concert will be rescheduled for the 2020-2021 season.

The Cathedral Concert series welcomes back frequent performer and intentionally renowned organist David Briggs. With a huge repertoire spanning five centuries, he is known across the world for his organ transcriptions of symphonic music by composers such as Mahler, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Elgar, Bruckner, Ravel, and Bach. In fact, the Cathedral Choir will join Mr. Briggs during his appearance this season as he presents his own transcription of Mahler’s Second Symphony.

Those who have generously supported the work of Cathedral Music will be invited to a private concert and reception in their honor. This annual concert takes place in the Cathedral Apse and is the Cathedral musicians’ way of showing appreciation to those who make the Cathedral Concerts possible. Reception to follow in the Cathedral undercroft.

We are disappointed to have cancelled this year’s concert, but we are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of the cathedral community and our patrons from throughout central Ohio. We look forward to hosting you again in the future.

Cathedral Choir Tribute to the Columbus A.G.O.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Columbus Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, the Saint Joseph Cathedral Choir will present a program featuring Duruflé’s Requiem (Op. 9) and Vierne’s Messe solennelle (Op. 16). Dr. Richard K. Fitzgerald, conductor; Miss Nicole Simental and Dr. David Crean, organists.
