Dexter Kennedy

As the winner of the Grand Prix d’interprétation at the 24th Concours International d’Orgue de Chartres, Dexter Kennedy has established himself internationally as one of the finest organists of his generation. Praised by The American Organist for his “prodigious technique and grand style musicality,” Kennedy offers performances that are at once, fiery, spontaneous, and historically informed.

Lessons and Carols at the Cathedral

The Cathedral Choir and soloists from the ensemble will join forces with the Cathedral Brass for a program of works for Advent and Christmas. Featuring a selection of pieces by Tavener, Palestrina, Rheinberger, and more, this year’s concert has something for all lovers of great sacred music. The audience will also have the opportunity to sing the great carols of the season with orchestra and organs.

James David Christie

James David Christie has been internationally acclaimed as one of the finest organists of his generation. He has performed around the world with symphony orchestras and period instrument ensembles. Christie holds positions as chair and professor of organ at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music; distinguished artist in residence at the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts; and organist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Christophe Mantoux

Christophe MantouxSunday, February 28, 2016 at 3 p.m.

Christophe Mantoux is Professor of Organ at the Conservatoire Régional de Paris and Titular Organist at the Church of Saint-Séverin in Paris. Mantoux won the prestigious Grand Prix d’Interprétation at the Chartres International Organ Competition (Grand Prix de Chartres) in 1984 and enjoys an international performing career. This will be his second appearance on our series.

The Office of Tenebrae

The Cathedral Schola’s annual performance of music for Tenebrae, including Thomas Tallis’ Lamentations of Jeremiah, has become one of the Cathedral’s most popular events. The evening is marked by the gradual extinction of candles, culminating in the performance of Gregorio Allegri’s Miserere in a completely darkened Cathedral.

Those who have generously supported the work of Cathedral Music will be invited to a private concert and reception in their honor. This annual concert takes place in the Cathedral Apse and is the Cathedral musicians’ way of showing appreciation to those who make the Cathedral Concerts possible.
